How To Measure Sheer Shades

Instructions for Inside Mounted Sheer Shades

Depth Requirements

  • For an inside mount, you’ll need to make sure the window frame is deep enough to accommodate sheer shades. Read more about this by visiting the "Specifications" tab on the information page for your product.

 

Measuring the width


  • The width measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations – the top, middle, and bottom.  Choose the smallest of these measurements.
  • If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8". (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
  • And that’s it! That’s the width measurement you’ll use when placing your order for sheer shades.

Measuring the height


  • The height measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations – the top left, center, and the top right.  Choose the largest of these measurements. 
  • If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8". (For example, if the largest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 5/8". If it's 24 1/2", no need to round down.)
  • And that’s it! That’s the height measurement you’ll use when placing your order for sheer shades.

Instructions for Outside Mounted Sheer Shades

An outside mount sits outside of the window and the window frame. Because it is meant to cover the entire space of the window, and more, you’ll need to make some additions to the measurements to make sure you order the right size. 

Flat surface requirements

  • Visit the "Specifications" tab on the information page for your product to find out about the flat surface requirements for an outside mount. Usually, you’ll need about 1” of flat wall to make it work.

Measuring the width


  • The width is found by measuring the top, middle, and bottom of the window.
  • Take the largest width and add at least 2 inches to each side to give you more light coverage.
  • Here’s your width for your sheer shades.

Measuring the height


  • The height is found by measuring the top left of the window to the bottom, the middle, and the top left.
  • Take the largest height and add at least 2 inches to the top and to the bottom to give you more light coverage.
  • Here’s the height for your sheer shades.

We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide during checkout. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the chart below for the deductions per collection (Deductions may vary +/- 1/8"):
