Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Recommendations
- Measure carefully, including diagonally from corner to corner. If your window is out of square by more than 1/2", consider the Contemporary Faux Wood Shutters, outside mount, for a better fit.
- Inside mount shutters may limit access to tilt-in windows.
- Inside mount frames include small factory deductions for proper fit.
- Larger shutters may require dividing rails for added stability, and panel sizes are limited—wider windows require multiple panels.

- The dividing rail is automatically positioned at the center of the shutter.

- Getting the right measurements is the key to a perfect fit, but don't worry—you don't have to do it alone. - Inside mount only. This product is designed specifically for inside window frames and is not available for outside mount.
- Minimum depth required: 2 7/8" inside the window frame, to the nearest obstruction.
- Uniform look tip: If you're ordering multiple shutters in the same room, consider matching their heights to the shortest window for a consistent appearance.
- Window variation note: If your window height or width varies by 1/2" or more from side to side or top to bottom, we recommend choosing a product that supports outside mount for a better fit.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
Measuring the Width
- Measure the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in three places (top, middle, and bottom)
- Record the smallest width of the three measurements
- For 1/16” or 1/32” increments, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16," round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This is the width you will order
Measuring the Height
- Measure the exact height (top to bottom) of the window opening in three places (left, center, right)
- Record the smallest height of the three measurements
- For increments of 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16," round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This will be the height you will order
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
- Measuring for shutters is very important and can be overwhelming. We recommend giving one of our shutter experts a call at 888-257-1840 to help guide you though the process and ensure a smooth ordering experience.
- To avoid light gaps around the frame, consider ordering an outside mount frame.
- When ordering outside mount shutters, please ensure you read our Measure & Install tab to ensure you are entering the correct measurements for your shutters.
- Shutters over 63" in height will have a dividing rail.
- Shutters with a hidden tilt and height over 63" will have the tilt split into 2 sections for stability.
- When ordering adjacent shutters in the same room, to achieve a uniform appearance, you must specify that all adjacent shutters and their divider rails be the same height.
