Pleated shades (also called accordion blinds) consist of a single layer of fabric folded into crisp pleats. They move up and down smoothly and can be configured top down/bottom up for flexible light control and privacy.

While they may look similar visually, pleated shades are a single-layer fabric and do not provide the insulating honeycomb structure. Cellular shades trap air between layers for better energy efficiency, whereas pleated versions offer a lighter profile at a lower cost.

Pleated shades are generally easy to install yourself. They use simple inside- or outside-mount brackets. Inside-mount requires at least 1 1/4" depth; fully recessed needs at least 2". Optional hold-down brackets are recommended on doors or swaying windows.

• For inside mount: measure three points across width (use smallest) and three vertical points (use largest).
• For outside mount: add 2–3 inches to width and 3–4 inches to height to reduce light gaps.

These shades are low maintenance. Use a soft brush or vacuum with upholstery attachment for regular dusting. Spot-clean with mild soap for stains. Avoid harsh chemicals.
