Fit & Factory Deductions

We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.

Recommendations

Measure carefully, including diagonally from corner to corner. If your window is out of square by more than 1/2", consider an outside mount for a better fit.
Inside mount shutters may limit access to tilt-in windows. Outside mount is recommended for easier operation and to reduce light gaps.
Inside mount frames include small factory deductions for proper fit, while outside mount shutters are made to your exact measurements.
Larger shutters may require dividing rails for added stability, and panel sizes are limited—wider windows require multiple panels.
Shutters may require some assembly, and pre-drilled holes help ensure a smooth, accurate installation.

Good to Know

When considering an inside mount frame, you should also measure on the diagonal (from corner to corner) each way. If the measurements are off more than 1/2", you should consider ordering an outside mount frame.
If your windows tilt in, you should consider an outside mount frame. An inside mount frame will prevent you from opening your windows.
If your louvers are loose and don't want to stay in place, each shutter panel has a tension screw on each side. Simply use a screwdriver to turn each tension screw a 1/4 of a turn. Do this on both sides of the panel.
No deductions are made to Outside Mount Shutters.
If you window has a sill then you need to choose the 4 Sided w/ Sill Frame option to ensure your shutters can be installed properly.

Pre-drilled installation holes are strategically placed on all frames for accurate, quick and clean installation. Some assembly is required.
Inside Mount Shutters will get a 1/4" deduction to both Width and Height when 4-Sided Frame is ordered.
Inside Mount Shutters will get a 1/4" deduction to the Width and 3/16" to the Height when 4-Sided w/ Sill Frame is ordered.

To avoid light gaps around the frame, consider ordering an outside mount frame.
When ordering outside mount shutters, please ensure you read our Measure & Install tab to ensure you are entering the correct measurements for your shutters.
Shutters over 74" in height need to have a dividing rail.
To avoid excess louver overlap, a minimum of 18" is required between divider rail and the top/bottom rail of the shutter.
Shutters with a hidden tilt and height over 52" will have the tilt split into 2 sections for stability.
When ordering adjacent shutters in the same room, to achieve a uniform appearance you must specify that all adjacent shutters and their divider rails be the same height.

Measuring

Outside Mount Instructions

To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. Below are our recommended outside mount additions to ensure your shutter fits around your window.

Measuring the Width

Measure the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in 3 places (top, middle, and bottom)
Record the largest width of the 3 measurements
If you are getting an increment of 1/16” or 1/32”, round up to the nearest 1/8”
You will add the frame dimensions to this size

Measuring the Height

Measure the exact height (top to bottom) of the window opening in 3 places (left, center, right)
Record the largest height of the 3 measurements
If you are getting an increment of 1/16” or 1/32”, round up to the nearest 1/8”
You will add the frame measurements to this size

Measuring Tips

Use a steel measuring tape
If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round down to the nearest 1/8"
