Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
No Drill
- IMPORTANT MEASURING TIP: If any No-Drill Blinds option is chosen, take all three standard width measurements (top, middle, bottom) to check for variance, but be sure to input the exact measurement of the top of your window frame into the width field. Compare the three measurements, and if the variance between them exceeds 1/4", No-Drill Blinds may not fit properly.
- The No-Drill Blinds option is only available for Inside Mount, and require 1 1/2" of depth to install. They are not recommended for use with PVC or metal window frames.
- Factory will deduct approximately 1/4" off the width of the No-Drill Blinds headrail.
- The locking mechanism on all No-Drill blind headrails is located on the left side and is tightened and loosened using the provided Allen key.
Good to Know
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/4". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your shade. Deduction information is detailed in the table below.
- The rear side of the headrail will be exposed, and the mechanism will be visible from the street side.
- Standard valance is 6" tall and includes matching returns on all outside mounts. Outside mount valances will measure up to 3/4" wider depending on the type of material/color selected.
- The Light Filtering liner is available in white, khaki, and cocoa, and will be visible from the street.
- The Room Darkening and the Blackout liner upgrades are available in white, sand, grey, and brown, and will be visible from the street.
- Valance returns are not included.
- When no liner is chosen, woven wood shades may allow visibility depending on the lighting.
- Shades made with the Room Darkening liner may have pinholes visible in direct sunlight.
- Since this is a natural product, colors will not be exact. (Seasons can change the color of the reeds, grasses, etc.) Please order for an entire room at once to prevent dye lot variance.
- The edge binding and valance upgrades will add a 3/4" border to each side of both the shade and the valance.
- Continuous Cord Loop is made of nylon and is color-coordinated to match the shade.
- Material will always cover a portion of your window, even when fully raised. Please call in for considerations.
- Motorized options are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which will be shipped at or below 30% charge for safety. Fully charge your shades before use for optimal performance.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
Measuring the width
- With the tape measure, find the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in three places (top, middle, and bottom). Choose the smallest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This will be the width you order.
Measuring the height
- With the steel tape measure, find the height (top to bottom) of the window frame in three places (top left, center, and top right down to the window sill). Choose the largest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round up to the nearest 1/8”. (For Example, If the largest measurement is 24 9/16", round up to 24 5/8". If it's 24 1/2", no need to round up.)
- This will be the height you order.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the window’s width in three spots (top, middle, and bottom).
- Find the largest measurement and add at least 2” to each side, giving you more light coverage and added privacy.
- That number is the width.
Measuring the height
- Measure the window’s exact height in three spots (top left, center, and top right down to the bottom sill).
- With the largest number, add 2 inches to the top and bottom, for a total of 4 inches. Add more if you want even more coverage.
- That number is the height.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round up to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
