Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Recommendations
- The ordered height includes both the vanes and the headrail, with a possible variance of ± 1/8".
- If the window depth is too shallow for a flush mount, we recommend contacting our service team to request an outside mount valance with shortened returns.
Good to Know
- The tilt and draw control is defaulted to a white wand tilt.
- Wand lengths are pre-determined based on the length of the blind.
- If the window frame is too narrow for a flush mount, we recommend ordering the blind as an inside mount and requesting an outside mount valance with shorter returns.
- The vanes are made of polyester and recycled cotton.
- Blinds with a 62" or less height will receive a 30" wand.
- For outside mount valances, the width of the valance is 1 1/8" wider than the ordered width when measured from the back, and 2" wider when measured at the corners.
- Vane lengths for inside mounts are approximately 2 1/8" shorter than the ordered height, while outside mounts are approximately 1 5/8" shorter. These lengths may vary by ± 1/8".
- For inside mounts, 1/4" is deducted from the ordered width, and 1/2" is deducted from the ordered height. For outside mounts, no deductions are made to the ordered width or height.
- Custom made in the USA.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
How to Measure the Width
- Start by measuring the exact width from left to right of the inside edge of the window frame. Measure in three places: top, middle, and bottom.
- Write down the smallest of the 3 widths.
- For 1/16” or 1/32” increments, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this width when you will order.
How to Measure the height
- Starting from the top and working your way to the bottom, measure the exact height of the window frame in three main places, including the top left, the center, and top right, all the way down to the window sill. If you are measuring patio doors, measure all the way to the floor.
- Use the smallest height out of the 3.
- For increments of 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this height when you will order.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the exact width (left to right) of the wooden or metal window frame or how wide you would like the blind or shade to be.
- You’ll use that measurement and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. For example: If the window opening is 72", it might be helpful to order 76". This will provide 2" of coverage on each side of the window to ensure that the blind will be wide enough to cover the opening.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the first number of the measurement.
- Keep in mind that the valance will be about 2" wider than the width ordered except for our Cordless Vertical Blinds, this will be about 1" wider than the width ordered.
Measuring the height
- Measure the exact height (top to bottom) from the top headrail location to the bottom sill (or to the floor for patio doors) in three places (left, middle, and right).
- You’ll use the largest of the three measurements and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. For example: If the height of the window opening is 80", it is recommended to order 84" to ensure to get the optimum light coverage. This will provide the 3"-4" of coverage to ensure that the blind is long enough.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the second number of the measurement. This is the height you will order.
- Please be sure to know that the height measurement will always include the headrail. Example: if the height ordered is 80" this will be the height including the headrail (from the very top of the headrail to the bottom rail). The vanes will be about 1 3/4" smaller than height ordered so when attached to headrail it will total to height ordered.
- You will want to mount the headrail above the window frame. Please make a note that some windows have trim that might interfere with mounting so it's important to measure above the trim if this is the case.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round up to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
