Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Good to Know
- Fabric Roman shades may have wrinkles in the material after installation. Most minor wrinkling will smooth out over several days. For quicker results, you can use a garment steamer on the back of the shade, being careful to avoid direct contact with the fabric.
- Fabric color can vary from one dye lot to another. To ensure that all materials are from the same dye lot, please order shades for the same room simultaneously.
- Multiple shade orders of different heights may not have the same size pleats. We recommend ordering all shades using the longest length in the room and with the same lift system.
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your shade. Deduction information detailed in the table below.
- Subtle Day & Night Roman Shades are built with 2 layers of fabric, and do not feature valances or returns.
- The fabric will fall over the top of the headrail (waterfall style), and can be 2+ inches from the wall on outside mount. We recommend 4+ inches be added to the width of your shade when outside mounting to prevent light gaps.
- When ordered as an outside mount, Motorized lift will have visible white end caps and Cordless will have a visible fabric-wrapped headrail. Returns are not available for this product.
- Fully sewn, the front fabric comes standard with an attached blackout liner - the rear fabric is an unlined sheer voile.
- Hold down brackets and spacer blocks are not available on this product.
- Motorized options are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which will be shipped at or below 30% charge for safety. Fully charge your shades before use for optimal performance.
Remote Motorization
- Remote is already programmed to the motorized shade. The front and rear layers are independently operable via separate buttons on the remote.
- At least one remote is needed per order. The 1-channel remote allows you to operate 1 shade on a single remote, and the 15-channel remote allows you to operate up to 15 shades on a single remote. When adding a multi-channel/frequency remote, please select 'No Remote' for any additional motorized shades you want to add and power with.
- Motorization limits are preset during production.
- Rechargeable remote-control Motorization lift system upgrade includes a rechargeable motor battery and charger.
- Battery charge will last up to 6 months based on an average-sized shade raised and lowered twice a day. It takes approximately 4 hours to recharge the motor when fully depleted.
- Remote reaches from approximately 65-80 feet away from shade.

Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
Measuring the Width
- Begin by measuring the width of the window. Measure from left to right and measure at the top, middle, and then bottom of the window.
- Write down the narrowest width of the 3 measurements down to the closest 1/8".
- If you are getting a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round down to the nearest 1/8". (For example, if the narrowest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This is the width you will need to order for your window.
Measuring the height
- Measure the height from top to bottom, starting at the top left, then moving to the center, and then measuring from the top right to the window sill
- Document the largest height out of the 3 measurements up to the closest 1/8".
- If you are getting a 1/16" or 1/32" increment, round up to the nearest 1/8". (For Example, If the largest measurement is 24 9/16", round up to 24 5/8". If it's 24 1/2", no need to round up.)
- If you have several windows in a room that are all very similar in height, order all of them at the largest height to ensure similar pleat sizes.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- For the width, measure the window opening in three places (top, middle, and bottom), and use the widest of the three measurements.
- You’ll use that measurement and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. This will ensure the window is properly covered.
- Use this width when ordering.
Measuring the height
- Measure the top left, center, and top right of the window to find the height.
- You’ll use the largest of the three measurements and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. This will ensure the window is properly covered.
- If you have several windows in a room that are all similar in height, order all of them at the largest height to ensure similar pleats.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
