Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Recommendations
- For inside mount, measure carefully using your exact opening size. No need to adjust for factory deductions—we handle that for you (deductions may vary ±1/8").
- Panel tracks feature overlapping fabric panels (about 3") for enhanced light control, but small depth gaps between panels are normal.
- Panels slide smoothly along a track and stack based on your selected stacking option, which may vary by lift style.
- Larger widths may require a spliced track for added support and stability.
- There will be a 1/2" light gap at the bottom of the hanging panels.
Good to Know
- Panel Overlap - 3" for enhanced privacy and light control.
- The back of the product will be white in color.
- Panels may have an approximate 1/2" deep gap between them.
- There will be a 3/8" light gap at the bottom of the hanging panels for inside mount.
- There will be a 1/4' light gap at the top, between the track and panels.
- Inside Mount Deductions - 3/8" off headrail width. Total height including panels and headrail will be 3/16" shorter than ordered for inside mount.
- Panel tracks come standard with white aluminum track with no valance.
- Panel count determined by selected width. Check specifications for detailed guidance.
- Wand length is adjusted based on height ordered. White Wand coordinated.
- Panel tracks will have the wand placed on the leading edge of the front panel.
- Right control stacks panels on the left. Left control stacks panels on the right. Split panels can be stacked down the middle.
- Track Splice Bracket - Included for tracks over 96" wide. A spliced track is two tracks joined together.
- Panel Height - Panels will be approximately 1-3/8" shorter than ordered height for inside mount, and 1 1/4" for outside mount.
- Ceiling Mount specialty hardware is included with order.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
How to Measure the Width
- Start by measuring the exact width from left to right of the inside edge of the window frame. Measure in three places: top, middle, and bottom.
- Write down the smallest of the 3 widths.
- For 1/16” or 1/32” increments, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this width when you will order.
How to Measure the height
- Starting from the top and working your way to the bottom, measure the exact height of the window frame in three main places, including the top left, the center, and top right, all the way down to the window sill. If you are measuring patio doors, measure all the way to the floor.
- Use the smallest height out of the 3.
- For increments of 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this height when you will order.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the exact width (left to right) of the wooden or metal window frame or how wide you would like the blind or shade to be.
- Make sure to measure wide enough as to cover the entire window and provide maximum light gap coverage. We recommend 2" of coverage on each side of the window so a total of an additional 4" added onto the width. For example: If the window opening is 72", it might be helpful to order 76". This will provide 2" of coverage on each side of the window so ensure that the blind will be wide enough to cover the opening.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the first number of the measurement.
- Keep in mind that the valance will be about 2" wider than the width ordered.
Measuring the height
- Measure the exact height (top to bottom) from the top headrail location to the bottom sill (or to the floor for patio doors) in three places (left, middle, and right).
- We recommend adding about 3 or 4 inches to this number to insure maximum light gap coverage and to cover the window completely. For example: If the height of the window opening is 80", it is recommended to order 83" - 84" to ensure to get the optimum light coverage. This will provide the 3"-4" of coverage to ensure that the blind is long enough.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the second number of the measurement. This is the height you will order.
- Please be sure to know that the height measurement will always include the headrail. Example: if the height ordered is 80" this will be the height including the headrail (from the very top of the headrail to the bottom rail). The vanes will be about 1 3/4" smaller than height ordered so when attached to headrail it will total to height ordered.
- You will want to mount the headrail above the window frame. Please make a note that some windows have trim that might interfere with mounting so it's important to measure above the trim if this is the case.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round up to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
