Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Recommendations
- For inside mount, measure carefully using your exact opening size. No need to adjust for factory deductions—we handle that for you (deductions may vary ±1/8").
- Panel tracks feature overlapping fabric panels (about 3") for enhanced light control, but small depth gaps between panels are normal.
- Panels slide smoothly along a track and stack based on your selected stacking option, which may vary by lift style.
- Larger widths may require a spliced track for added support and stability.
- Calculation for finding panel width is: Ordered track width + Appropriate panel count (provided below)/ Divided by how many panels ordered = Panel Width (Round up to nearest 1/8")
- Appropriate Panel Count: 2 panels + 3", 3 panels + 6", 4 panels + 9", 5 panels + 12", 6 panels + 15", 7 panels + 18", 8 panels + 21", 10 panels + 27"
- There will be a 1/2" light gap at the bottom of the hanging panels.
- For example: If you are ordering a track at 66" wide with 7 panels- 66+18= 84/7= 12" panel width.
Good to Know
- Widths greater than 119" require a spliced track for maximum support. A spliced track is two tracks joined together.
- Cornice boards wider than 119" will be made up of two separate cornices that are installed side by side.
- Standard panel overlap: 1-1/2”
- Inside mount deductions: 1/2" off of panels, 1/4" off of headrail. 1/2" off of height. Deductions may vary +/- 1/8.
- There will be a 1/2" light gap at the bottom of the hanging panels.
- Calculation for finding panel width is: Ordered track width + Appropriate panel count (provided below)/ Divided by how many panels ordered= Panel Width (Round up to nearest 1/8")
- Total height includes panels plus the track. Panels will be approximately 1-3/8" smaller than height ordered for inside mount and 1" for outside mount. With a cornice, it will be 2-1/4" smaller than height for inside mount and 1-7/8" smaller for outside mount.
- There is no light gap between the rail and the panels.
- Overall panel track will be 3/8" less on width and 1/2" on height.
- Outside mounted panel tracks that are left or right stack will have the wand placed on the leading edge of the front panel. All other configurations will have the wand placed behind the leading edge of the front panel, hidden from view. Free Flow panel tracks will not have a wand.
- Right control stacks panels on the left. Left control stacks panels on right. Free flow panels can be stacked anywhere.
- If outside mount is selected ceiling mount hardware will need to be requested through customer service.
- Please note that the back of each shade may not match the front of the shade. In most cases the Essential Collection will be a similar color to the front while the Lifestyle and Architect Collections will be white. Please order samples to ensure you are happy with the color on both sides before ordering.
- Panels may have an approximate 1/2" deep gap between them.
- The Manual Control wand will always be 45" long, regardless of ordered height.
- Motorized options are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which will be shipped at or below 30% charge for safety. Fully charge your shades before use for optimal performance.
SelectConnect Bridge
- The SelectConnect Bridge is compatible with almost all Motorization systems we offer. (Not compatible with Panel Tracks, Wood Blinds, or the SelectBlinds Automation system)

- Controller range is approximately 150' or 30 blinds/shades. One controller per floor is recommended for use in typical size homes. However, multiple units may be needed for full coverage depending on the location of window coverings and the layout and construction materials of your home.

Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
How to Measure the Width
- Start by measuring the exact width from left to right of the inside edge of the window frame. Measure in three places: top, middle, and bottom.
- Write down the smallest of the 3 widths.
- For 1/16” or 1/32” increments, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this width when you will order.
How to Measure the height
- Starting from the top and working your way to the bottom, measure the exact height of the window frame in three main places, including the top left, the center, and top right, all the way down to the window sill. If you are measuring patio doors, measure all the way to the floor.
- Use the smallest height out of the 3.
- For increments of 1/16” or 1/32”, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- Use this height when you will order.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the exact width (left to right) of the wooden or metal window frame or how wide you would like the blind or shade to be.
- Make sure to measure wide enough as to cover the entire window and provide maximum light gap coverage. We recommend 2" of coverage on each side of the window so a total of an additional 4" added onto the width. For example: If the window opening is 72", it might be helpful to order 76". This will provide 2" of coverage on each side of the window so ensure that the blind will be wide enough to cover the opening.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the first number of the measurement.
- Keep in mind that the valance will be about 2" wider than the width ordered.
Measuring the height
- Measure the exact height (top to bottom) from the top headrail location to the bottom sill (or to the floor for patio doors) in three places (left, middle, and right).
- We recommend adding about 3 or 4 inches to this number to insure maximum light gap coverage and to cover the window completely. For example: If the height of the window opening is 80", it is recommended to order 83" - 84" to ensure to get the optimum light coverage. This will provide the 3"-4" of coverage to ensure that the blind is long enough.
- Write down that size making sure that it is the second number of the measurement. This is the height you will order.
- Please be sure to know that the height measurement will always include the headrail. Example: if the height ordered is 80" this will be the height including the headrail (from the very top of the headrail to the bottom rail). The vanes will be about 1 3/4" smaller than height ordered so when attached to headrail it will total to height ordered.
- You will want to mount the headrail above the window frame. Please make a note that some windows have trim that might interfere with mounting so it's important to measure above the trim if this is the case.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
