Fit & Factory Deductions
We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the deductions chart for the deductions per collection.
Recommendations
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your blinds. Deduction information detailed in the table below.
No Drill
- MPORTANT MEASURING TIP: If any No-Drill Blinds option is chosen, take all three standard width measurements (top, middle, bottom) to check for variance, but be sure to input the exact measurement of the top of your window frame into the width field. Compare the three measurements, and if the variance between them exceeds 1/4", No-Drill Blinds may not fit properly.
- The No-Drill Blind option is only available for Inside Mount.
- No-Drill is only compatible with the Cordless lift system.
- The No-Drill will be on the left side.
- The No-Drill will come with an Allen Wrench to lock the shade in place.
- Requires 2 5/8" of depth to install. This is not recommended for use with PVC or metal window frames.
- Factory will deduct approximately 1/4" off the width of the No-Drill Blinds headrail,
Good to Know
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your blinds. Deduction information detailed in the table below.
- Inside mount valances will have 3/8" taken off the ordered width (deductions taken at factory).
- Optional 2 on 1 headrail recommended for widths over 84” due to weight of product.
- Hold down brackets available upon request.
- Cordless lift comes standard with tilt wand.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
Measuring the width
- Measure the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in three different places (top, middle, and bottom).
- Write down the narrowest width of the 3 measurements down to the closest 1/8".
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This is the width you will need to order for your window.
Measuring the height
- Measure the exact height of the window frame from the top to the bottom in three different places (top left, center, and top right down to the window sill).
- Document the largest height out of the 3 measurements up to the closest 1/8".
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round up to the nearest 1/8”. (For Example, If the largest measurement is 24 9/16", round up to 24 5/8". If it's 24 1/2", no need to round up.)
- This is the height that you will order for your fabric window coverings.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the true width of the window opening in three distinct places (top of the window, middle of the window, and the bottom of the window).
- Record the biggest width out of the three different measurements.
- You’ll use that measurement and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. This will ensure the window is properly covered. For instance, if the opening of the window is 72 inches, it would be helpful to order 76”. This will provide 2” of coverage on each side of the window for light gap coverage and maximum privacy.
- Adjust the additions as much as you’d like, but the above example is a good starting point.
- Use the final number for the width measurement.
Measuring the height
- The exact height of your window opening needs to be measured in three particular places: top left, center, and top right down to the bottom of the window sill.
- Note the greatest height out of the 3 height measurements.
- You’ll use the largest of the three measurements and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches. This will ensure the window is properly covered. For example, if the window height is 36” inches, it would be helpful to order 40”. This will provide enough of a flat surface to mount the blinds while providing maximum privacy and light gap coverage.
- Feel free to make the additions as small or as large as you want.
- Use this number as the height.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round up to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
