Fit & Factory Deductions
Recommendations
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your shade. Deduction information detailed in the table below.
- Since this is a natural product, colors may vary slightly from dye lot to dye lot. (Seasons can change the color of the reeds, grasses, etc.) If ordering for an entire room, we recommend ordering all of your shades at the same time to ensure they all come from the same dye lot.
- Woven wood materials are not inherently private and may allow visibility through them depending on lighting conditions.
- If a liner option is available, adding a liner can improve privacy and help protect the natural material from fraying over time. Liner color may be visible from the street.
- Edge binding is highly recommended with a continuous cord loop and is offered exclusively in the Earthbound collection. Due to the nature of the materials, some fabric curvature may occur.
Good to Know
- Standard valances are 6" in height. For windows less than 18" wide, the valance will be 4" in height.
- Standard outside mount returns are 2-3/4" for Cordless, and 2-3/4" for Continuous Cord Loop. No returns on inside mounts.
- When selecting the Privacy or Blackout liners, the liner color chosen is on the inside of the shade while the outside of the liner (street side) is always white. Charcoal liner will have a grey street facing color.
- Liners are made of 100% polyester.
- Due to the natural characteristics of the product, the finished height may vary up to 1" longer than ordered height.
- Material will always cover a portion of your window, even when fully raised. Please call in for considerations.
- Light filtering liners in white, beige, and tan liners are white on the street side. Khaki liner is off-white on the street side. Charcoal liner is gray on the street side.
- Blackout liners in white, beige, tan, and khaki liners are white on the street side.
- Sewing pin holes may be visible at the ring cord-guide attachment locations causing light gaps.
- Privacy Liners and blackout liners are attached to the back of the shade where small slits are made in the lining at the ring cord-guide attachment locations. When Edge-Bindings are also ordered, the privacy lining will be sewn under the binding.
- Edge binding is 5/8” wide.
- Shades ordered in a cordless lift with edge binding will only have edge binding on the sides of the shade and valance. Not the bottom of the shade and valance.
- The safety device is required by law and must be applied on chain loops and prevents free-hanging loops in operating chains. Install the safety device at the maximum distance possible from the control mechanism to prevent slack in the loop.
Inside Mount Instructions
To ensure an inside mount will work for your window, start by checking that you have enough mounting depth. You can find the exact requirements under the “Specifications” tab on the product page of the item you are considering.
Measuring the width
- With the tape measure, find the exact width (left to right) of the inside edge of the window frame in three places (top, middle, and bottom). Choose the smallest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round down to the nearest 1/8”. (For example, if the smallest measurement is 24 9/16", round down to 24 1/2". If it's 24 3/8", no need to round down.)
- This will be the width you order.
Measuring the height
- With the steel tape measure, find the height (top to bottom) of the window frame in three places (top left, center, and top right down to the window sill). Choose the largest of these measurements.
- If you get a 1/16” or 1/32” increment, round up to the nearest 1/8”. (For Example, If the largest measurement is 24 9/16", round up to 24 5/8". If it's 24 1/2", no need to round up.)
- This will be the height you order.
Outside Mount Instructions
An outside mount is a great choice for better light coverage, since it fully covers the window and frame. To get the right fit, you’ll need to account for a few extra measurements when placing your order. We’ll custom make your shade to the exact dimensions you provide—no automatic additions are made.
Flat Surface Requirements
Start by choosing where you’d like to mount your shade. You’ll need at least 1-2½” of flat mounting space. For more details, check the product page and review the “Specifications” tab.
Measuring the width
- Measure the window’s width in three spots (top, middle, and bottom).
- Find the largest measurement and add at least 2” to each side, giving you more light coverage and added privacy.
- That number is the width.
Measuring the height
- Measure the window’s exact height in three spots (top left, center, and top right down to the bottom sill).
- With the largest number, add 2 inches to the top and bottom, for a total of 4 inches. Add more if you want even more coverage.
- That number is the height.
Measuring Tips
- Use a steel measuring tape
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for width, round down to the nearest 1/8"
- If you get a 1/16" or 1/32" increment for height, round up to the nearest 1/8"
- SelectBlinds applies all necessary deductions; do not adjust width.
