Measuring Instructions for Sheer Shades

Sheer shades are the perfect blend of traditional horizontal blinds and modern shades. With a sheer overlay, you get the best of both worlds when you order sheer shades.

Ready to Measure for Your Sheer Shades?

  1. Start by finding a steel measuring tape.
  2. Remember to round every measurement to the closest 1/8”.
  3. The next thing to remember is always measure and record the width first, followed by the height measurement.
  4. Don’t ever measure the existing blind. Only measure the window by itself for the best accuracy.

Instructions for Inside Mounted Sheer Shades

Depth Requirements

  • For an inside mount, you’ll need to make sure the window frame is deep enough to accommodate sheer shades. Read more about this by visiting the “Product Info” tab on the sheer shade’s main page.

Measure the widthMeasuring the width

  • The width measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations – the top, middle, and bottom.
  • Find the smallest width, rounding down to the nearest 1/8”.
  • And that’s it! That’s your width measurement you’ll use when placing your order for sheer shades.

Measure the heightMeasuring the height

  • The height measurement is found by measuring the inside of the window frame in three locations – the top left, center, and the top right.
  • Find the largest height, rounding up to the nearest 1/8”.
  • And that’s it! That’s your height measurement you’ll use when placing your order for sheer shades.

Don’t worry about making your own deductions. We’ll take care of that for you automatically. Do not make your own deductions. Do not add to the width to make up for any deductions. If you would like more light coverage, consider an outside mount. See chart below for the deductions per collection:

Instructions for Outside Mounted Sheer Shades

An outside mount sits outside of the window and the window frame. Because it is meant to cover the entire space of the window, and more, you’ll need to make some additions to the measurements to make sure you order the right size. We will not make any deductions or additions for you.

Flat surface requirements

  • Visit the “Product Info” tab on your sheer shade’s page to find out about the flat surface requirements for an outside mount. Usually, you’ll need about 2 ½” of flat wall to make it work.

Measure the widthMeasuring the width

  • The width is found by measuring the top, middle, and bottom of the window.
  • Take the largest width and add at least 2 inches to each side to give you more light coverage.
  • Here’s your width for your sheer shades.

Measure the heightMeasuring the height

  • The height is found by measuring the top left of the window to the bottom, the middle, and the top left.
  • Take the largest height and add at least 2 inches to the top and to the bottom to give you more light coverage.
  • Here’s the height for your sheer shades.
