Measuring Instructions for Roller Shades

Roller shades are a classic design choice, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Modern roller shades offer a variety of stylish and trendy designs and patterns, so you can be sure to get the look you want, no matter your style.

Measuring 101:

  1. A steel tape is best, as it provides the best accuracy when measuring.
  2. You’ll need to round each measurement to the nearest 1/8”.
  3. Always record the width first, and then the height last.
  4. Don’t measure the blind or shade you have now. Only measure the window space itself.

  • Inside Mount

Inside mounted roller shades mount inside the window casing, and do not cover the window molding.

  • Outside Mount

Instructions for Inside Mounted Roller Shades

Depth Requirements

  • Your window needs to be deep enough for an inside mount. Go to the product’s information page and click on the “Product Info” tab to find out more about your product’s requirements.

Measure the widthMeasuring the width

  • The width measurement is taken from the inside edge of the window frame in three places (top, middle, and bottom).
  • Only use the smallest measurement out of the three and please round to the nearest 1/8”. This will be the width you order.

Measure the heightMeasuring the height

  • The height measurement is taken from the window frame in three places (top left, center, and top right down to the window sill).
  • Round the largest number to the nearest 1/8”.
  • This will be the height you order.

We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide during checkout. Do not make your own deductions. Don’t add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take. For more light coverage, choose an outside mount. See the chart below for the deductions per collection:

Instructions for Outside Mounted Roller Shades

Since outside mounted window coverings cover the entire window opening and the window frame, there are some additions you will need to make to order the proper size. We will only make your product to the dimensions you specify, with no additions made.

Flat surface requirements

  • First find where exactly you want to mount the shades. Make sure you have a minimum of 2 ½” of flat space. To find the product’s specific mounting requirements, read the information contained in the “Product Info” tab on whatever product you’re ordering.

Measure the widthMeasuring the width

  • When measuring the window’s width, take it from three locations: the top, middle, and the bottom.
  • You’ll use the largest of the three measurements and add at minimum of four inches, which is 2” for each side. This will ensure the window is properly covered.
  • Now you have the perfect width and you’re ready to order.

Measure the heightMeasuring the height

  • When measuring the window’s height, take it from three locations: the top, middle, and the bottom.
  • You’ll use the largest of the three measurements and add a minimum of four inches, which is two for the top and two for the bottom. This ensures the window will be properly covered.
  • Now you have the perfect height and you’re ready to order.
