Roman Shades
With all the options in blinds and shades, it’s not a surprise that people don’t always understand fully what makes a roman shade. Roman shades are often used to give a room the look of drapery, without the associated cost. To ensure the elegant feel you are looking for from roman shades, Select Blinds has chosen fabrics that in many cases are the exact fabrics used in drapes.
Unlike sheer shades or cellular shades, roman shades are more decorative, and give your room a feel you would expect from drapes. When looking at roman shades the first thing to decide upon is the style and colors that best complement your windows. Select Blinds offers a full range of styles including solids, patterns, florals, and stripes.
Once the style and color have been chosen, it’s time to make the decision on which fabric to use. These can be a beautiful linen, cotton, silk, or a polyester fabric. We have worked diligently to bring our customers a wide selection in their choice of fabric.
The last piece you have to make a decision on is the fold style. Select Blinds' roman shades can be custom made in four different fold styles. The Classic Style Fold will give the cleanest look to your window shade when raised. The European Style Fold, which works much like the flat fold style. The difference is that the bottom of the shade curves like a very wide letter "U", adding a European flair to the roman shade. The Flat Style Fold will do exactly what the name implies. The fabric panels simply fold over the next, as you raise the shade to the desired height. Finally, there is the Hobbled Style Fold, which will give you the most drapery-like look to your roman shade. In this style, there are generous amounts of material gently cascading as your shade is raised.

The Options
A popular option in shades for letting in light is the top down bottom up feature. Like a standard shade you can of course raise the bottom up, but unlike a normal shade you can also lower the top down. This feature on your window shades gives you much more control of how the light gets into your room, as well as how much of your room can be seen from the outside. This is great for bedrooms, where you want to wake up to the morning sun, and still maintain privacy for your room. The shades will be made with two sets of controls, one on each side. This feature works in the exact same manner on roman shades, as it does on our cellular shades, and bamboo shades.
Privacy can also be enhanced by adding a room darkening or blackout liner to your roman shade. These liners also improve the level of light not allowed into the room, making a great window shade for bedrooms and media rooms. If privacy is important but you don’t want the look afforded by roman shades, you can get a more casual look with our woven bamboo shades.
