CONGRATULATIONS … to Barbara Pacific, who shared our #selectblindslaborday hashtag and won a $250 Visa gift card!! We just notified her that the card is on the way and here’s what she had to say:
“Is this real?? I am a 42-year-old first-time college student putting myself through school to become a Social Worker for foster children, so I am buying some things for my apartment and some books I need for my college courses. Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this is going to help me!”
Yes, it is real, Barbara, and we’re so happy for you and glad this will help. Good luck with school, and thank you — and everyone who entered the contest (which is now over 🙁 ) — for sharing about Select Blinds!
Thanks to everyone who entered! Watch for details on our next contest here on The Blinds Spot!
May we have a drum roll please? Select Blinds is thrilled to announce the winner of its first annual $1,000 college scholarship. Congratulations to Jacob Hola, a premed and accounting student at Utah State University.
Jacob was selected for the scholarship award from more than 400 eager applicants. To apply, students were challenged to come up with creative things to do with window coverings, or a new technology for designing tomorrow’s window treatments. They also had to submit an essay on one of five different topics related to their field of study and how they could help make the world a better place.
While living in the Dominican Republic, Jacob was surprised what little people there knew about the world. In his essay, he described his ideas for spreading and sharing knowledge with people in more remote areas that could improve and change their lives.
“We don’t necessarily need a new idea to revolutionize the world, “ he wrote. “What we need is to share the ideas that we already have.”
In applauding Jacob’s ideals, our co-founder and CMO, Rick Steele, reiterated why Select Blinds fosters a culture of innovation and the importance of education in developing tomorrow’s innovators.
“We love and value innovation, education and passion, and that’s why we created a scholarship to help high school and college students achieve their potential. It’s part of our belief, too, in the importance of giving back for the greater good of our communities. That’s why we’re super excited to award the first of what we hope will be many more – and larger – scholarships in the future.”
