Premier Blackout Skylights

Instantly felt a difference!

My husband and I just finished installing our skylight blackout shades in our laundry room. It did take us a couple of hours, considering we kept installing the brackets either upside down or backwards, but it was really an easy fix, just time consuming. To me, it was like figuring out a puzzle. Our skylight lets in a lot of sun and a lot of heat, in a room with no air conditioning. With a 99 high for tomorrow, these came just in time! Once everything was installed and we closed the shades, we felt a drop in temperature immediately! It is amazing! I’m thinking that traditional windows would be easier to install the shades in, so thank goodness we began with the most difficult window in the house. Will definitely be ordering more in the future!

Skylight Shades

First, these look great once installed and do the job intended - blocking out the hot AZ sun from our main bedroom at our family cabin. I was disappointed in a few aspects of the product including: 1) the directions were not the easiest to follow and took a bit of ingenuity to figure out, 2) the screw holes in the side and bottom rails for all 3 sets were smaller than the provided screws, and as such, had to be drilled out wider and 3) the worst part was the way in which the blinds were packaged for shipping. Each set was bound together with clear plastic wrap that was nearly impossible to remove without using a knife or shears. Unfortunately, shears were not the best choice as the side chords were also wrapped in the ends with the packing wrap and I cut both chords in half on the first set. Needless to say, I not very happy with the situation. The blinds still work, but they don't track parallel side to side without the chords. Given all of the warnings and labels on everything, this would seem to be a very important piece of information to be aware of. Also, as a tip to the installer, the recommended pilot hole size was too small in my opinion and the screw heads stripped out until I made a larger pilot hole. I would also recommend using a ratcheting manual screwdriver vs. a cordless power driver for the screws to prevent stripping the screw heads. Overall, they look great, but was more of a process than anticipated!

Skylight Blinds

Overall, the product is great, the color exactly as I wanted. They fit and work just as I wanted. My only issue was was the screws supplied were too large for the side and bottom rails, meaning I had to drill out the pre-drilled holes. Apart from that the instructions are ok, take time to read them a couple of times if you are doing the installation yourself. Now they are finished, they look and work great.

Bad finish

The blind arrived on time and well packed. The instructions were lousy. They were for a standard window not a skylight. The end trim piece has a terrible look. The silver foil insulation is showing on the face of the cloth.
