Overall I'd say that these shades are a good value and well made. We wanted both the blackout and insulating properties of a cell shade and the cordless feature, as we used them in our 2 year old's room. They seem very sturdy and were a breeze to install. I had to build some custom blocks to use them on an inside mount, but that's due to our unusual window molding.
We got the up/down feature as well... which is were I found the only real weakness in this product. The up/down functionality is a great feature and allows maximum flexibility in window coverage. However, the mechanism on these shades leaves a lot to be desired.
Once the shades have been down for a few hours, it is virtually impossible to push them back up without a complex, two-handed process. You either have to bring the top rail down to meet the bottom rail and then slide both to the top. Or painfully, slowly raise the bottom rail, while holding the shade above it from buckling out. I hope that over time, the cells "relax" enough that this won't be and issue, but after one month, it's not gotten any easier.
I'd have a hard time recommending these shades in this exact configuration. I just think they are too heavy to work well w/ the up/down feature... at least where opening them is concerned. The shades themselves are built very well and I have a feeling that they might work fine with a corded raising mechanism.
