How to Clean Roman Shades

Updated March 2024

Roman shades are a unique style of window covering that combines the elegance of curtains with the modern functionality of window shades. Due to their fabric material, cleaning romans will be similar to cleaning curtains. A lint roller will help capture any dust, but for a more thorough clean, check out the two tips below!

1. Use a Vacuum Brush Attachment for Dust

Lower the shades so you can easily access all the fabric. Start with the fold section closest to the top, and using the brush attachment, gently vacuum the material in a downward direction. For the best look, continue across that fold by using the same downward motion.

2. Spot Clean for Any Spills

If you need to spot clean, use a slightly damp cloth and very mild detergent or soap. Dab at the spot and avoid rubbing the fabric. This works best when you do it right after the spill! Romans come in a variety of fabrics, so if the spill is not coming out, check the fabric care and content guides on the product pages for more details. For example, LEVOLOR® roman shades are constructed similarly to roller shades and won’t absorb moisture as much as other fabrics.
